In order to serve the diverse recreational needs of individuals and families and to enrich the quality of life for all residents, the Pleasant Hill Recreation & Park District is committed to providing park facilities, open space and programs and activities for all ages.
Our efforts and those of the clubs and organizations that we sponsor, have been recognized by local, statewide and national agencies. Following are some recent examples of our award-winning programs and organizations.
California Association of Recreation & Park Districts 2010 Awards of Excellence: Outstanding Organization Pleasant Hill Lions Club, Pleasant Hill Recreation & Park DistrictThe Pleasant Hill Lions Club from Pleasant Hill Recreation & Park District won the award for Outstanding Organization in the state by the California Association of Recreation and Park Districts (CARPD). The award was part of CARPD’s annual conference in Monterey April 13-15, 2010.

Local AwardsAt the annual awards reception March 25, 2010 for the California Park and Recreation Society, District 3 the Pleasant Hill Lions Club, Scott Davis, owner of Magoo’s Grill, and Cloty Ulrich, leader of a Spanish resource group were honored for their partnerships with Pleasant Hill Recreation & Park District. The Pleasant Hill Lions Club won Outstanding Non-Profit Partner in Parks & Recreation for its 58-year relationship with the park district. In the early 1950s the Lions helped the park district build its first headquarters, now used as the Teen Center. Starting in 1955, they produced the annual egg hunt in Pleasant Hill Park, now in its 55th year. Every year the Lions help with the District’s annual Holiday Festival, Recreation Summer School, Taste of Pleasant Hill, and raise money for a variety of causes, including $7,000 for the Sprayground at Pleasant Hill Aquatic Park. The Lions Club defines community service in Pleasant Hill. Scott Davis of Magoo’s Grill was awarded Outstanding Corporate/Business Partner for his support of park district programs. Davis helped raise funds to build the Sprayground at the PH Aquatic Park; has supported the Teen Garage Band Concert Series held in downtown Pleasant Hill; and through major corporate sponsorship of the Pleasant Hill Community Foundation Sunvalley Golf Tournament, has supported the Senior Caregiver position, as well as youth programs. Cloty Ulrich started Amistad, a resource group for Spanish-speaking seniors in Pleasant Hill in 2005. She was named Outstanding Volunteer in Parks and Recreation. After a lifetime of volunteering and 15 years working for Pleasant Hill Recreation & Park District, she continues to lead the group of approximately 20 people twice a month. Pleasant Hill Recreation & Park District appreciates these volunteers, salutes their spirit of giving, and recognizes their contributions to making Pleasant Hill an outstanding community in which to live and work. |

District of Distinction: Pleasant Hill Recreation & Park District First-ever Award by Special District Leadership FoundationThe Pleasant Hill Recreation & Park District recently became the first Recreation & Park District ever to receive the “District of Distinction” accreditation by the Special District Leadership Foundation. The accreditation, which is one of the most prestigious local government awards in California, recognizes the District's commitment to good governance as well as ethical and sound operating practices. Pleasant Hill Recreation and Park District successfully met a list of requirements involving policies, procedures, continued education, and audit standards to receive accreditation. The Special District Leadership Foundation, a collaborative effort of eight special district organizations, developed the District of Distinction program to help special districts demonstrate to their communities, the media, and legislators their commitment to operate in a sound and responsible manner as providers of essential public services. Pleasant Hill Recreation & Park District, which has been operating since 1951, serves over 40,000 people within the community, an area about 20% larger than of the City of Pleasant Hill. The District offers over 2,300 enrichment classes, programs, activities, and sponsors numerous clubs and organizations Annually more than 100,000 persons participate in programs, visit District facilities, or volunteer on an annual basis. The District includes over 269 acres of park land including 11 park sites, three pools, two community center facilities, a senior center complex, a cultural center, an historic site, trails, and open space areas. The Board of Directors is made up of five elected officials who are elected by District residents to serve four-year terms. All Board members and the General Manager have completed education in governance and the ethics compliance training. Board members also serve on Board committees, work with the staff, and interact with the community. An appointed ex-officio member from a high school located within the District also serves on the Board. The District has provided documentation on three years of clean audits, their policies and procedures, and current operating budget to the SDLF Audit Review Committee for review and approval. By doing this, the District has demonstrated to the communities, media, and its legislators, its commitment to operate in a sound, responsible manner. |

Pleasant Hill Recreation & Park District Named Best in the State!
The California Association of Recreation & Park Districts selected Pleasant Hill Recreation & Park District as Outstanding Large District at their awards ceremony on April 26, 2003. The District was selected for the outstanding range of special events planned to bring the community together to share cultural. social. sporting and children or family-oriented activities and entertainment.
