Meet the 2019 Featured Authors
Parker Peevyhouse is the author of The Echo Room (Tor Teen 2018), a science fiction thriller which Kirkus called "a thrilling ride" in a starred review. Parker's critically acclaimed collection of novellas, Where Futures End (Penguin/Dawson 2016), was named the best book for teens by the New York Public Library, Chicago Public Library, and Bank Street. Parker lives in the San Francisco Bay Area and works at Hicklebee’s Children’s Bookstore.
Catriona McPherson is the multi-award-winning author of thirteen Dandy Gilver mysteries, set in Scotland in the 1930s where (but not when) she was born, and seven darker (that’s not difficult) psychological thrillers, the latest of which is GO TO MY GRAVE. Catriona immigrated in 2010 when her husband joined the faculty at UC Davis, and last year began a trilogy set in a fictional (fictional, she insists) northern California college town. Jill Nussinow is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, culinary educator and the author of four cookbooks. She began publishing her own award-winning cookbooks in 2005 (The Veggie Queen: Vegetables Get the Royal Treatment) before print on demand was easy. Two more cookbooks followed in 2007 and 2012 (The New Fast Food and Nutrition CHAMPS, respectively). She was then ready to publish on a larger scale and got an agent and a book deal. Her most recent book is Vegan Under Pressure which has sold more than 40,000 copies. Jill has been helping people achieve better health through teaching them about improved nutrition through food. Jill has been teaching people about plants and how to cook with them for the past 30 years. She is an adjunct culinary instructor at Santa Rosa Junior College, teaches for the McDougall program and is a frequent cooking teacher and guest nutrition lecturer at Rancho La Puerta in Tecate, Mexico. Jill loves teaching people how to cook and eat well and sharing her thoughts and health philosophy. Meredith May is an award-winning journalist and fifth-generation beekeeper. Her memoir, THE HONEY BUS (coming April 2019), reveals the life lessons she learned in her grandfather’s Big Sur bee yard that rescued her from a difficult childhood. Published by HarperCollins/Park Row Books, the book will be translated into eleven languages. Her 2017 book: I, WHO DID NOT DIE, tells the true story of an Iranian child soldier who risked his life to save an enemy during the Iran-Iraq War – an astonishing act of bravery and kindness that changed the course of both their lives. During her sixteen-year career at the San Francisco Chronicle, her reporting won the PEN USA Literary Award for Journalism, the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism, and first place feature writing awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Associated Press. Her series about an Iraqi boy wounded during the second Gulf War was shortlisted for the Pulitzer Prize. Meredith is a former professor of journalism and podcasting at Mills College in Oakland, CA. She lives in San Francisco, where she rows on the Bay and cares for several beehives in a community garden.
